Woman-owned startup named one of three finalists by Specialty Food Association

DUNDEE, NY — December 8, 2025 — Hazy Fudge, a woman-owned, family-operated startup founded by 67-year-old entrepreneur Carol Fitzgerald, has been named a finalist for the Specialty Food Association’s 2026 sofi Awards, the industry’s highest honor. Out of more than 1,200 submissions nationwide, only 75 finalists were selected, and Hazy Fudge is one of just three in the Chocolate & Confections category.

“To be recognized at this level affirms everything we’ve worked toward,” said Fitzgerald. “We created the first Cabernet-Infused Spoonable Fudge that blends New York dairy, Finger Lakes wine, and ethically sourced chocolate. Innovation doesn’t just come from large cities or big companies. It can come from rural communities and from founders at any age.”

Hazy Fudge’s signature product is a smooth, spoonable fudge that can be enjoyed straight from the jar, stirred into coffee, spread on toast, or drizzled over ice cream. It was created using a patent-pending process that preserves up to 5% ABV while maintaining a stable, silky texture.

The company sources 55–60% of its ingredients from New York producers like Glenora Wine Cellars and Upstate Niagara Cooperative,  and partners with The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler’s Glen Copack facility for packaging and fulfillment.

Since launching in 2024, Hazy Fudge has expanded into more than 25 retail locations while Fitzgerald completed Cornell’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Program, the Seed Spot Emerging Brand Accelerator, and the Specialty Food Association’s Maker Prep Course.
